Introducing Bluvy Messenger
Privacy has become one of the most important aspects of online communication. Yet most messaging applications require users to create a new account and often lock them into a closed ecosystem. Bluvy Messenger takes a different approach.
Bluvy Messenger is an end-to-end encrypted messaging application built on AT Protocol. Instead of creating a new account, you simply sign in with your Bluesky, Eurosky, or any other compatible AT Protocol account.
Every message is encrypted directly on your device before it is transmitted. The server only relays and stores encrypted data and never has access to the cryptographic keys required to decrypt your conversations. Only the participants in a conversation can read its contents.
To provide this level of security, Bluvy Messenger uses Messaging Layer Security (MLS), an open standard designed for modern secure messaging. MLS delivers robust end-to-end encryption while providing secure and efficient key management for conversations.
Why Bluvy became Bluvy Messenger
Bluvy was originally created as a third-party client for the AT Protocol ecosystem. Over time, however, the ecosystem has matured significantly. Official applications and existing third-party clients have evolved to the point where creating another general-purpose social client no longer provides enough value.
At the same time, the need for secure, privacy-respecting communication continues to grow. In the context of European digital sovereignty, we made the decision to evolve the project into something more meaningful: Bluvy Messenger.
Rather than competing with existing social clients, Bluvy Messenger complements the AT Protocol ecosystem by focusing exclusively on secure, end-to-end encrypted messaging built on open standards.
Built in France
Bluvy Messenger is developed in France with a strong commitment to privacy, interoperability, and open technologies.
Servers are hosted in France, no tracking technologies are used, and no personal data is shared with third parties.
Our goal is to make Bluvy Messenger available to as many people as possible. Today, it is accessible directly from any modern web browser and can be installed in just a few clicks as a Progressive Web App (PWA), providing an experience close to a native application. A dedicated Android version is also in active development and will be released in beta as soon as possible.
The beginning of the journey
This first beta intentionally focuses on the essentials by supporting secure one-to-one conversations. As the project matures, new features will be introduced, including self-chat for secure notes, group conversations, message reactions, replies, link previews, file sharing, and many other improvements.
Bluvy Messenger aims to demonstrate that secure communication can be built on open standards without compromising usability. Community feedback will play a central role in shaping the future of the project and building a trustworthy messaging platform for the AT Protocol ecosystem.
