This new version of Bluvy Messenger marks an important milestone in the application's evolution. Over the past several weeks, we have completely reworked key parts of our end-to-end encryption, multi-device synchronization, and data protection systems.
The result is a more reliable, more resilient application that can better handle even the most complex situations—all while remaining completely transparent to users.
A More Stable Experience from Startup
We've fixed several issues that could occasionally cause inconsistent behavior when launching the application.
In some cases, opening Bluvy Messenger from a notification could briefly display a "Failed to load conversation" message or incorrectly show the app as offline. These issues were caused by multiple network checks running simultaneously during startup.
The initialization process has been redesigned so the application now waits for all essential services to be fully ready before continuing.
We've also unified Android's Back button behavior. Whether you use your device's physical Back button or the in-app navigation controls, the experience is now consistent throughout the application.
Finally, the conversation list now always reflects newly received messages correctly, including after background synchronization.
More Reliable End-to-End Encryption Across All Your Devices
This release includes significant improvements to the reliability of our end-to-end encryption.
Under very specific circumstances—such as reconnecting after being offline for an extended period or adding a new device—a conversation could occasionally become stuck and incorrectly ask you to restore encryption.
The internal synchronization mechanisms have been completely redesigned so that every device can now correctly recover its encryption state, even after a long period offline or following a reconnection.
These improvements also strengthen synchronization between multiple devices and significantly reduce the risk of desynchronization when adding, removing, or restoring a device.
Your Messages Are Protected Before They Are Sent
We've also strengthened message protection even before a message leaves your device.
Previously, a message was only considered safely stored after it had been successfully sent to the server. In very rare situations—such as an unexpected application shutdown, device restart, or operating system interruption—a message could potentially be lost.
From now on, every message is securely saved on your device before any transmission attempt begins.
If sending is interrupted, your message remains safely stored locally, and Bluvy Messenger will automatically resume sending it as soon as conditions allow.
The same approach now applies to your encrypted conversation backups, which are also durably stored before any synchronization takes place.
Intelligent Recovery Before Any Reset
In exceptional situations where an encrypted conversation can no longer be safely restored, Bluvy Messenger may automatically create a new secure conversation.
This process is now significantly safer.
Before any reset occurs, the application always attempts to recover all available history by:
restoring your encrypted cloud backup;
decrypting every message that can still be recovered using locally available encryption keys;
verifying that all recoverable data has been restored before creating a new secure conversation.
This approach preserves as much conversation history as possible while ensuring encryption returns to a healthy and consistent state.
In the rare event that some messages remain temporarily unavailable, the application will clearly inform you and automatically continue recovery attempts whenever additional data becomes available.
Device Revocation Now Fully Protects Your Data
We've also significantly strengthened device security.
Previously, revoking a lost or stolen device immediately prevented it from accessing new conversations. However, if that device already possessed the keys used to decrypt your encrypted backups, it could theoretically continue reading those backups.
This is no longer possible.
When you revoke a device:
a brand-new backup encryption key is automatically generated;
your conversation history is progressively re-encrypted using the new key;
the previous backup key is permanently invalidated.
Your confidential PIN remains unchanged, but you'll receive a new recovery key that replaces the previous one. Be sure to store it safely, as the old recovery key will no longer work.
Your remaining trusted devices are automatically notified and seamlessly resynchronize in the background without interrupting your ongoing conversations.
A Stronger Foundation for the Future
Beyond the visible improvements, this release represents a major evolution of Bluvy Messenger's internal architecture.
Large parts of the systems responsible for encryption, synchronization, automatic recovery, multi-device management, and data protection have been redesigned to significantly improve the application's overall reliability.
We've also considerably expanded our automated testing infrastructure. Complex real-world scenarios—including multiple devices, reconnections, account switching, delayed synchronization, interrupted operations, and device restoration—are now automatically validated to reduce the risk of regressions in future releases.
